Telegraph lines reach the Nebraska Territory and the first telegraph office opens in Brownville

The first telegraph office in the Nebraska Territory opened in Brownville, in Nehama County, then the largest town in the territory.  The correspondent for the New York Times reported telegraph messages from New York City reaching the office the next day.  (By John Osborne)
