Centenary of Schiller's birth celebrated in Europe and North America

The one hundredth anniversary of the birth of German poet Friedrich von Schiller (1759-1805) was marked with celebrations in German, the United States, and the United Kingdom.  In London, for example, a torchlight procession of around 15,000 people, most of them ex-patriot Germans was held at the Crystal Palace.  (By John Osborne)
