NANTUCKET COUNTY, an island, situated off the southeast part of Massachusetts, in the Atlantic ocean. Area, 50 square miles. Face of the country, level; soil sandy, and generally poor. Seat of justice, Nantucket. Pop. in 1810, 6,807; in 1820, 7,266; in 1830, 7,202; in 1840, 9,012; in 1850, 8,454.
