GREENE COUNTY, situated toward the southeasterly part of New York, on the west side of Hudson river. Area, 583 square miles. Face of the country beautifully varied, with high mountains and fruitful valleys; soil rich and well cultivated. Seat of justice, Catskill. Pop. in 1810, 19,536; in 1820, 22,996; in 1830, 29,525; in 1840, 30,446; in 1850, 33,126.
