    Frederick June 9 1847
    Dr Emory

I am truly sorry to hear of the stand taken by Mr McClintock in the fray at Carlisle_ From the spirit it has created among our Southern people_ I am afraid if our worthy friend McClintock is not Speedily Removed from the disturbance it will be a great injury to your College_ for hope so much so that it may recover_ if the facts be true_ I think it would be wise_ to have this matter_ Settled before you Vacation_ for if this matter rests _so_ & Mr McClintock remains at the institution_ when the students return home to the different States_ I am afraid there will be many that will not return_ and will be the cause of many more not visiting your College_ therefore I hope there will be some measures taken to have this matter settled- before the vacation

    Your truly
    Otho Norris
