CURRITUCK COUNTY, situated at the northeast part of North Carolina, divided by Currituck sound, and comprehending Currituck inland. Area, 600 square miles. Face of the country level; soil generally sandy and barren, but much of it is profitably cultivated with rice. Seat of justice, Currituck. Pop. in 1820, 8,090; in 1830, 7,654; in 1840, 6,703; in 1850, 7,236. (Fanning's, 1853)
