Shreve, Richard Southeron

Richard Southeron Shreve, born in 1838 in Alexandria, Virginia, enlisted in the Confederate States army after graduation. Attaining rank of lieutenant of artillery by 1864, he served in the battles of Balls Bluff, the Wilderness, Spottsylvania, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, and Appomattox. He later entered the ministry of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, married, and was killed by lightning in White Sulphur Springs, Virginia on June 25, 1874. (By Brandon Rothenberg)
