HARTFORD COUNTY, situated on the northern boundary of Connecticut, and traversed by Connecticut and Farmington rivers. Area, 727 square miles. Face of the country beautifully diversified with mountains and rich valleys; soil fertile, especially on the rivers. Seat of justice, Hartford. Pop. in 1810, 44,733; in 1820, 47,264; in 1830, 51,141; in 1840, 55,629; in 1850, 69,966. (Fanning's, 1853)
