Louis Philippe of France names the moderate liberal François Guizot as prime minister

As the July Monarchy (1830-1848) came under increasing pressure from democrats and radical republicans, King Louis Philippe of France elevated one of his chief advisers, the moderate liberal François Guizot, to the position of prime minister. (By Brian Bockelman)
