The U.S.S. Wadawaska was built and launched at the Brooklyn Naval Yard in New York and underwent sea trials in early 1867.  She was renamed the U.S.S. Tennessee in 1869 and served as flagship of the Asiatic Squadron and later for the North Atlantic Squadron.  For much of her career the 3281 ton vessel was the largest United States warship in commission.  She was sold in 1886.
