The Prince of Wales and his party had arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia on July 30, 1860. He was welcomed with a parade and a loyal address from both houses of the Nova Scotia Parliament and attended a banquet that evening. The following day he inspected the garrison and was the guest of honor at a grand ball held in the Provincial Building. He left Halifax by train on the morning of August 2, 1860, bound for St. Johns, New Brunswick. He reached there in the late evening. (By John Osborne)
