Buckmaster, Isaac

Isaac Buckmaster was born around 1843 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Buckmaster joined Company A of the 8th United States Colored Troops Regiment as a private at twenty years old on September 15, 1863 in Philadelphia. His enlistment records list him as five feet and five inches tall with black hair and a dark complexion. His twenty-two year old brother, Jonathan, joined the same company four days later on September 19, 1863. Buckmaster was listed as wounded in action on February 20, 1864 during the Battle of Olustee in Florida. He remained out of service until August 1864. He was laid to rest at Lincoln Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. (By Brenna McKelvey)
