Two days after the first coast to coast telegraph message the Pony Express ceases operations
Two days after the trans-continental telegraph line had been completed and sent its first coast to coast message, the Pony Express announced its closure and completed its last run to and from St. Joseph, Missouri and Sacramento, California. An enterprise of the Central Overland and Pike's Peak Express Company, it had operated for a little under nineteen months and had lost $200,000. (By John Osborne)
