Joseph Heco becomes the first Japanese born citizen of the United States

Joseph Heco, born Hikozo Hamada in Japan, becomes the first Japanese-American when he is granted citizenship. He later becomes the first to publish a Japanese language newspaper in the United States. (By John Osborne)
