ANDERSON COUNTY, in the northeasterly part of Tennessee, and watered by Clinch river. Length, about 30 miles; mean breadth, 25, extending over 750 square miles. This county is traversed by Cumberland mountains, from which protrude several spurs; therefore, its surface is mountainous, broken, and rocky, though possessing much good soil. Courts are held at Clinton. Pop. in 1820, 4,674; in 1830, 5,310; in 1840, 5,658; in 1850, 6,938. (Fanning's, 1853)
