United States Senate confirms Robert Grier's appointment to the Supreme Court
This seat on the Supreme Court had been empty for two years because the Senate vetoed every nominee that President Tyler proposed. Now, a new administration under President Polk finally convinced the Senate to accept Robert Cooper Grier of Pennsylvania. (By Joanne Williams)
