Bristol County, MA

BRISTOL COUNTY, situated in the southeast part of Massachusetts, on Buzzard's bay and Rhode Island line. Length, 35 miles; mean breadth 17, with an area of 600 square miles. The face of the county is generally level, though hilly in some parts. The soil is naturally of a fair quality, but somewhat worn. Seats of justice, New Bedford and Taunton. Pop. in 1820, 40,908; in 1830, 49,592; in 1840, 60,164; in 1850, 74,577. (Fanning's, 1853)
