7th. Looked unlikely, but afterward cleared off. We all went thro' a pretty county to Goshen. The people were assembling fast. A Crowd. It is sd that this is the best appt. in the Circuit. The congregation was not as large to day as usual. I preached from Gen. 4.9. - "Am I my brother's keeper?" Was considerably excited. Was hospitably treated. Dined at Mr. Magruder's - whose wife is a member of our church. In the afternoon rode over to Brookville: found a large concourse of the finest looking people I ever saw before. The Church - people - everything looked neat & refined. I was very tired, but they made me set my own tunes: which provoked me. I preached from Is. 55.9 "For as the Heavens are higher than the Earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, & my thoughts than yr. thoughts." The Congregation was attentive. Went over to bro' W. Waters': found the family pleasant: spent the night. Never slept so soundly.
