Stealing Cattle.
We are sorry to learn that a couple of residents of DeSoto, are obnoxious to the charge of stealing cattle. It seems, that being hard pressed for money, those worthies took the liberty of driving to Glenwood, Iowa, several head of cattle belonging to parties living at or near Cuming City, selling them, and appropriating the proceeds. The owners of the cattle followed and recovered their property. The cattle thieves were subsequently arrested and taken before a DeSoto Justice of the Peace, who discharged them, as he said, for want of jurisdiction. The end, we conclude, is not yet. We would give the names of the parties arrested, and also that of the Dogberry before whom they were taken, if we knew them. DeSoto is a fast town. – Three banks in the place, we should think ought to place her citizens above the necessity of resorting to such means for procuring a living.
