WILLIAMS, the last victim of the government, prosecuted in Philadelphia for an alleged violation of the Fugitive Slave Act, has, after a severe trial, been acquitted. Thus have Fillmore and Webster miserably failed of their diabolical purpose. The crime of Williams, as charged, was, that he informed the persons at Christiana claimed as fugitives that the hunters were on their track! It is said that trials growing out of this case has cost the government $70,000. What has the North to do with slavery?
