John White Geary officially takes up his position as Territorial Governor of Kansas

John White Geary of Pennsylvania takes up his duties as Kansas territorial governor at Lecompton. In his first address he disbands the existing armed groups in the territory and calls for the enlistment of a new militia. (By John Osborne)
