A serious earthquake rocks most of the eastern Mediterranean

A deadly earthquake was felt throughout the eastern Mediterranean. The Greek Islands were particularly effected, with loss of life serious in Corfu, more than a hundred dead on Rhodes, while on Crete 538 people were killed and 6,512 buildings destroyed. (By John Osborne)
