May 22d. Considerable excitement in town to-day on account of some of Montgomery's men robbing L. D. Williams of two horses and some four hundred dollars in money. H. H. Williams, the Sheriff, went after them this morning with five men. Yesterday thirty Missourians killed five or six Free-State men. Rumours of parties of Pro-Slavery men around the country reached our ears. The town is preparing for fight, and setting a watch, or guard. We made some little preparations, concealing the guns, etc.
