William Walker is elected president of Nicaragua

Having acted as the commander-in-chief of the Nicaraguan army since the capture of Granada in October 1855, as well as the power behind the subsequent Liberal government of Patricio Rivas, the American filibuster hero William Walker now has himself elected president of Nicaragua.
