Erastus Beadle, who soon became famous as a purveyor of sensational "dime-novels," published on this day one of his first ten-cent offerings, on etiquette. Beadle's Dime Book of Practical Etiquette ran to 72 pages and was Beadle's contribution to the then current enthusiasm for instruction on best behavior. (By John Osborne)
