DOUGLAS IN MISSISSIPPI. – The Oxford Mercury says the democracy of Noxubee county recently passed this resolution:

Resolved, That, while we have hitherto [illegible] by the usages and supported the nominees of the democratic party of Mississippi, we deem it not improper to declare that should the Hon. Stephen A. Douglas be the nominee of the Charleston Convention as a candidate for the Presidency, in view of his position upon the question of slavery in the territories, we cannot and will not support him.”

The same paper says a meeting was recently held in Oktibbeha county – a large democratic meeting – at which the following resolution was adopted:

Resolved, That we repudiate with loathing and contempt the odious doctrine recently promulgated by Stephen A. Douglas, that a southerner can be deprived of his property in the territories by the operation of unfriendly territorial legislation.”
