In Louisiana, after defeat the day before, reinforced Union troops repel further attacks at Pleasant Hill

Continuing the heavy fighting and Confederate success at Mansfield the day before, General Richard Taylor attacked Union units attempting to consolidate after their retreat of the day before. Taylor attacked immediately but the newly reinforced Union troops held their ground and the Confederates were forced to withdraw.  The Union advance in the campaign was halted, however, and their forces began to pull back to Alexandria.  (By John Osborne)
