Camp Near Maksville [Marksville] L.a. Dec the 28th 1863.
Dear Wife.
It is with much plesure that I seat myself this eavning to write you a few lines to let you know that I am well as to helth but my mind is verry much confuseed and I am as mad as a wet hen. I reckon you will want to know what is the matter. Well I will tell you. I hav ben trying for a furlow and I hav failed to get it and there was orders come in to furlow too men from the company and my name and another mans from this company by the name of Thomas was sent up for furlowes and General Talor [Taylor] wouldent furlow but one from our Co. because there had ben one furlowed not long since and that cut me out. At least my name was first on the list and they scratched out and that cut me out. Dont you think that is enough to make me mad. I cant write much. Thomas is going to start in a few minuts. I saw Sid and Thomas a few days ago. Sid was well but Thomas was verry sick with the flux. I want to write lots but I havent time. Kiss Priscilla for me and Ile return the fav when I come. Nothing more at presant but I remain your affectionate husband untill deth. W. E. Stoker.
