Small passenger ship bound for New Haven sunk in early morning collision

The steam packet Champion of the New York to New Haven Line under a Captain John Brown was carrying around forty passengers and heading for New Haven, Connecticut.  In the early hours of the morning she collided with the much the larger steamship Albatross and very quickly began to sink.  The passengers were quickly taken aboard the Albatross and the stricken vessel was then towed to shallow water where it sank.  One crewman and two passengers lost their lives.  (By John Osborne)
