Lieutenant-Governor Wood sworn in as Governor of Illinois after the death of William Bissell

Two days before, the sitting Republican governor, William Henry Bissell, had become the first governor of Illinois to die in office, a victim of pneumonia.  Lieutenant-Governor John Wood was inaugurated at the State Capitol in Springfield on this day.  (By John Osborne)
