New daily newspaper commences publication in Sydney, Australia

The Sydney Mail began publication on this day.  In 1871, it became the Sydney Mail and New South Wales Advertiser.  In April, 1912, it reverted to its original title after being sold and ceased publication on December 28, 1938. (By John Osborne)
