Two very destructive fires strike the commercial district of Poughkeepsie, New York

Two destructive fives struck Poughkeepsie, New York within twelve hours causing more than $100,000 worth of damage.  The first broke out in the late evening and destroyed a large three story paint factory and damaged surrounding buildings.  The second was discovered a few hours later and demolished and entire block of seventeen buildings in the commercial district.  No serious injuries were reported.  (By John Osborne)
