A morning derailment on the Long Island Railroad killed the train's fireman and seriously injured two other crewmen. The train had traveled from Syosset and was nearing Brooklyn when it hit a cow on the track. The locomotive derailed, taking the baggage car, the milk car, and the first passenger carriage with it. The 125 passengers all escaped with nothing but bruises. (By John Osborne)
