Fog and heavy rains afflict New York City and vicinity

Heavy rains began in the region around New York City on the Wednesday night and continued for several days. Damage was light but basements in the city and surrounding towns suffered flooding.  Buildings and streets were heavily flooded as far away as Newark, New Jersey, for example. (By John Osborne)
