The French Empress relaxes in England and Scotland on a private visit
Empress Eugenie, consort of Napoleon III of France, was ordered by her doctors to get away from the press of court duties in Paris for a period of rest and relaxation. Accordingly, she made a discreet and unofficial private visit to the United Kingdom where she visited London and also toured scenic areas of central Scotland. She returned home on December 13, 1860.
