Heavy snow had blocked tracks on the Watertown and Rome Railroad near Adams, New York in Jefferson County. The railroad was employing a snow plow driven by two locomotives to clear the track when the combination derailed, smashed the plow to pieces, and injured several of the men operating it. On the same day, nearby Adams suffered the loss by fire of the west side of its main street, half its business district. No serious injuries were reported, however. (By John Osborne)
