    The Fire Companies.

We notice that the different Fire Companies are making most energetic exertions to supply the loss of their Apparatus. Subscription papers are flying about in all directions, and we hear of some very handsome donations, which indicate that a liberal spirit is abroad. In truth the property of our citizens is in imminent danger so long as we are without a single article of Fire apparatus, and therefore “what is done ‘twere well ‘twere done quickly.” No class of persons more heartily deserve the commendation and the encouragement of the community than the Fire Companies, composed as they generally are of those who are the slightest losers by fire, but who yet cheerfully give their time and labor and often risk life and health to protect the property of the more wealthy.
