    Baltimore Decr 31st 1860.

    Dear Sir,

I am a member of the Republican Party and reside in Boston Mass. I am now on a visit to Balto. and have made extensive inquiries in regard to the feelings of the People of Balto on the Subject of Slavery and I unhesitatingly say that it will be madness for you to attempt to reach Washington at any time I have had my head shaved twice merely for making the remark that I consider you a gentleman. Were I to say one word against Secession I should be instantly strung up by the Citizens, who are all most excited to madness. I have been ordered to leave this city, by tomorrow noon, and I reckon I will do it. Take this warning for your own sake, and that of your firm friend. Thos. Cadwallerder

    P. S. You are at Liberty to make any use of this note you may see proper.
