    NORTH CAROLINA DISSATISFIED

Five of the North Carolina regiments, enrolled for the war, have disbanded and surrendered their arms to the State. The Confederate Government gave them neither pay, food, nor clothes, and the Raleigh Standard fears that the “other regiments will do likewise, unless their demands are promptly met.”

The majority of the people of the Old North State were literally draggooned [dragooned] into the rebellion by reckless leaders after having expressed their loyalty to the Union by their votes, and should good opportunity offer, they would turn their backs upon secession as decidedly as some of their regiments have upon Confederate service. They have found in it “neither pay, food, nor clothes.”
