General Richard Ewell's Second Corps had been ordered to concentrate on Gettysburg and Rodes' Division left the Carlisle area and made its way south over muddy roads on a rain-filled day. They passed through Mount Holly, then called Papertown, and through York Springs, then known as Petersburg, and camped for the night about ten miles north of the rendezvous point at Heidelsburg, Pennsylvania.
