In New York York's Central Park, the cornerstone of the Shakespeare Monument is dedicated

On the three hundredth anniversary of William Shakespeare's birth, New York City participated in the worldwide celebrations with the laying of the cornerstone of a monument in Central Park. Later in the year, with funding from a benefit performance of Julius Caesar, starring three Booth brothers, including John Wilkes Booth, a statue by John Quincy Adams Ward was unveiled and stands today.
