President Lincoln's remains depart New York City after a massive procession across the city

Just after noon, Abraham Lincoln's coffin was at the center of an impressive procession that carried the remains in great pomp to the Hudson Railway depot on Thirtieth Street.  Press estimates were that up to 100,000 people participated in the procession itself, with another 350,000 watching on. The funeral train left for Albany and a viewing at the state capitol at 4:15 p.m. and arrived there just before midnight. (By John Osborne)
