In Canada, heavy spring flooding inundate portions of Montreal

The melting ice on the St. Lawrence River caused heavy flooding in Montreal, threatening bridges with ice barriers and making much of the western part of the Canadian city impassable. Several railway lines were underwater, also.  The floods moderated after a day and the very damp city slowly returned to normal.  (By John Osborne)
