In Nevada County, California, peace officers chase down a gang of stagecoach robbers, killing two

According to press reports, three armed men held up a stagecoach in the early hours of the morning with eight passengers and a Wells Fargo strongbox containing $8,000 in gold in Nevada County, California. Officials from nearby Nevada City gave chase and that afternoon Nevada City policeman Stephen Venard caught and engaged two of the robbers in Myers' Ravine, shooting both of them dead, and recovering the gold.  (By John Osborne)
