In Washington, six-month government figures indicate an hundred million dollar decline in the U.S. national debt

Government figures put the exact amount of the nation's public debt on June 30, 1866 at $2,783,425,879.21.  The October 31, 1866 figures showed that this figure had bee reduced by almost a hundred million dollars to  $2,681,751,081.82. The United States Treasury held exactly $130,326,960.62 cash in hand on this date.
