In Hartford, the Connecticut Legislature votes to ratify the Fourteenth Amendment.

Only days after the Fourteenth Amendment had been submitted to the states for ratification, Connecticut became the first state to do so.  The Amendment formally became part of the U.S. Constitution on July 28, 1868.  (By John Osborne)
