A Mississippi steamboat burns to the waterline at its dock in New Orleans, Louisiana

The Mississippi steamboat W.S. Osborn was completely destroyed by fire while moored at the dock in New Orleans.  The vessel's cargo had been unloaded the previous day and the empty steamer took fire in mid-afternoon and was burned down to the waterline .  No serious injuries were reported but the estimated financial loss was $75,000.
