St. Louis, Thursday, Dec. 24.
A Kansas Letter to the Democrat says that on the evening of the 16th a battle occurred at Fort Scott, between the Pro-slavery and Free-State men. Five of the former were killed, among them Blake Little, a member of the Lecompton Convention. Several were wounded on both sides, and twenty Free-State men were taken prisoners, and confined in the Fort.
The Missourians were assembled in strong force on the border, and more fighting was apprehended.
The difficulties grow out of the fact that Clark, notorious as the murderer of Barber, two years since, was about, accompanied by a Deputy Sheriff, collecting taxes of Free-State men, and seizing their property in default of payment, making prosecution under the rebellion law.
The Territorial Executive Committee had issued a call for the reassembling of the Delegate Convention, held at Lawrence, on the 2d inst., to take into consideration the best course to pursue in consequence of the Legislature having failed to submit the Topeka Constitution to the people with the Lecompton instrument.
