IMPORTANT DECISION. – Much interest was created some time ago by the arrest of Mr. Kauffman, a wealthy farmer of Cumberland county, in this State, for giving food and assistance to a family of fugitive slaves, which were brought from Maryland or Virginia, and left on his premises. The owner of the slaves brought suit, and gained, in one of the inferior courts, a verdict against Mr. Kauffman of [$2000?]. An appeal was taken to the Supreme Court, and on Monday last, after a full argument, Judge Coulter delivered an opinion reversing the decision of the lower court, on the ground that it was a matter which did not belong to State jurisdiction, but should have been brought in one of the Federal Courts under the acts of Congress.
