Anthony Burns is born a slave in Stafford County, VA. Though his father died in Burns' infancy, the family is the property of Charles F. Suttle and his family. Though the actual date of Burns' birth is unclear, May 31, 1834 is used on his tombstone. (By Blake Dickinson)
